According to South Tangerang Police Chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner Victor Daniel Henry Inkiriwang, the investigation team conducted operations from August to September 2024 to apprehend the suspects and uncover their criminal activities.
"We have secured eight individuals with the initials WRI, IG, ABS, RRU, AH, EW, MS, and RM. The arrests were carried out at various locations in the Curug area of Tangerang District and extended to Lhung Tarok, Pidi in West Aceh," he stated on Thursday.
The arrests stemmed from public reports of large-scale narcotics transactions in the Tangerang area.
The police launched an investigation, leading to the arrests of WRI (27), IG (26), and ABS (38), with 140.4 kilograms of marijuana.
Further investigation led to suspects RRU (30), AH (33), and EW (40) being netted in Batu Ceper, Tangerang City, with 390.9 grams of marijuana.
"Subsequently, we expanded our search to Aceh and apprehended MS and RM with 501.2 kilograms of marijuana," he added.
Narcotics Unit Head Adjunct Commissioner Baktiar Noprianto revealed that the suspects worked as couriers, earning tens of millions of rupiah per delivery.
They distributed large quantities of dried marijuana, selling at least kilograms at a time.
"Marijuana is sold per kilogram, with prices ranging from 10 to 15 million rupiah per kilogram throughout Indonesia," he explained.
Baktiar stated that the Aceh-based marijuana distribution network marketed the illicit goods to various groups and individuals. Additionally, the suspects promoted their products through social media channels.
"They distributed marijuana to anyone who ordered it, marketing their products through their social media networks," he revealed.
