Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government and society need to encourage the creative potential of Gen Z so that they gain more competence and adaptive skills and become driving forces of the nation's future, a cabinet member said.

"This should be our shared responsibility with all elements of the nation in preparing our younger generation to navigate the future," Deputy Minister for Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers Dzulfikar Ahmadi said during a discussion on Monday.

According to him, Indonesia is expected to reach the peak of the demographic bonus in 2045 with Generation Z (Gen Z) playing a vital role as the majority productive workforce who are expected to bring changes to the country.

Therefore, cross-sector synergy in several sectors such as education, health, employment, and economic empowerment is needed ahead of the peak of the demographic bonus, Ahmadi stressed.

Based on data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS), Indonesian youth now control around 62 percent of the total population structure, making them potential driving forces of the nation's future, he said.

Therefore, they need to have several core capabilities, such as strong educational readiness, relevant knowledge, appropriate skills, and extensive networks, to support their development, he added.

He said that the younger generation is not merely seen as a consumer of information but also as a producer. Gen-Z, known as "digital natives," have high creativity and innovation, as well as a quick response to changes with the times.

"We need to trust our younger generation. However, they still need wise guidance and consistent support to keep them on the right track and improve their potential to the fullest," he added.

Ahmadi said that the government has made concrete efforts for Gen Z through several programs, such as collaboration between his party and South Korea, Japan, and Germany under a government-to-government scheme to provide skills and language training to prospective migrant workers.

"This training does not only prepare Gen Z to work abroad but also gives them valuable global experience," he added.
