During the inauguration of the honorary consulate at the Agriculture Faculty of Gadjah Mada University (UGM) on Tuesday, Czech Ambassador to Indonesia, Jaroslav Dolecek, expressed confidence that the office will serve as a catalyst for mutual growth, understanding, and respect.
The ambassador said that he expects the newly opened diplomatic office to function as a bridge that interconnects the two countries' cultures, economies, and people.
The consulate office is also expected to help Indonesia and the Czech Republic strengthen their friendly bonds and trade ties and conduct cultural exchanges, he added.
Dolecek then highlighted that his side will require support from various parties and stakeholders to strengthen Indonesia-Czechia multi-sector cooperation and carry out cultural and educational exchanges.
He expressed the belief that by further enhancing collaboration, Indonesia and the Czech Republic can come up with innovative solutions to future challenges.
Meanwhile, Honorary Consul of the Czech Republic to East Java and Yogyakarta, Hermawan Kartajaya, underscored that the opening of the consulate is not only a diplomatic maneuver, but can also be seen as an effort to connect the people of the two countries.
"We are hoping to work as a bridge that facilitates the emergence of new ideas and innovations that will benefit the two nations," he said.
Dean of the UGM Faculty of Agriculture, Jaka Widada, on his part, welcomed the establishment of the honorary consulate in the building of the faculty's Agrotropica Learning Center.
"More than a mere celebration of the establishment of a new office, this (inauguration) also opens the door to opportunities for in-depth scientific and cultural exchanges," he said.
