P2MI Minister Abdul Kadir Karding discussed existing cooperation at a meeting with the ILO Director for Indonesia and Timor-Leste, Simrin Singh, in Jakarta on Thursday (October 31).
According to Karding, the Indonesian government is seeking support from various parties to address various problems related to migrant workers' protection. He also commended ILO's support in resolving various issues in the past.
"We cannot do it alone. Let us work together. Let it be with international institutions in Asia or institutions established by civil society," he noted in a statement from his office on Friday.
The minister then echoed Indonesia's commitment to improving protection for Indonesian Migrant Workers and their families, reflected in Law Number 6 of 2012 concerning the Ratification of the Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Their Family Members.
In addition, President Prabowo Subianto mandated two messages to minimize human trafficking crimes and increase foreign exchange by encouraging the placement of migrant workers in a humanist manner and avoiding exploitation.

Karding also expressed hope that the meeting would be followed up in the form of cooperation, both in terms of regulation or increasing capacity by involving migrant workers' vocations.
"For the medium term, we will strengthen cooperation with the countries of placement by asking for job orders. We will give it to educational institutions to prepare the resources," he noted.
In the long term, the minister envisions collaborative efforts with the Ministry of Education to provide training, expanding beyond English instruction at specific educational stages, such as vocational schools for nurses.
Singh responded positively to Karding and congratulated the ministry on its transformation from an agency.
Singh noted that the ILO has recognized the progress made by Indonesia in protecting its migrant workers, particularly highlighting the government's policy of covering placement costs.
"Indonesia has been a pioneer in protecting migrant workers in Southeast Asia. I think Indonesia can be an inspiration for other countries," she remarked.
