Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Industry Ministry is optimistic that Apple will fulfill its commitment to realizing investment in Indonesia by building a factory worth US$10 million in Bandung, West Java.

Deputy Minister of Industry Faisol Riza stated on the sidelines of the Indonesia Seamless Tube Summit on Wednesday that his side had heard about Apple's plan to invest in Indonesia.

"We hope that Apple's commitment can be realized as soon as possible," Riza remarked.

The deputy minister noted that his side has contacted Apple over the investment plan though their commitment was considered to still be lacking.

Moreover, the ministry is reviewing the plan for the iPhone 16 trade since the product has yet to meet the Domestic Component Level (TKDN) requirement.

He revealed that Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita would convey the decision regarding the sale of the iPhone 16 series in Indonesia.

Earlier, Apple was said to meet the TKDN requirements to sell the iPhone 16 series in Indonesia with the plan to invest in a factory in Bandung.

Currently, the iPhone 16 series cannot be officially sold in the country since the products have not met the TKDN regulations set by the Indonesian government.

On the other hand, Trade Minister Budi Santoso conveyed his plan to take action against e-commerce platforms that insisted on selling iPhone 16 and Google Pixel since the government has not issued permits for the sales of those gadgets.

"We always evaluate the e-commerce (platforms). If we find any violations regarding the sales of iPhone 16 and Google Pixel, we will take action," he remarked on Tuesday.

His side prohibits e-commerce platforms from selling iPhone 16 series products and Google Pixel smartphones produced by Alphabet.

Meanwhile, the Industry Ministry's spokesperson, Febri Hendri Antoni Arif, stated that the ministry is considering deactivating the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) serial number for iPhone 16 products proven to be traded domestically.
