Jakarta (ANTARA) - Do you still remember the Indonesian-flagged ship that successfully passed the geopolitical conflict in the Red Sea earlier this year?

Having been a hot topic, the Gamsunoro ship, which belongs to PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS), continues to make achievements. The ship, which has been sailing on international routes since 2021, has just finished beautifying itself by updating the ship's technology and facilities to head to the Panama Canal.

The Gamsunoro ship has been docking at Tuzla Port, Turkey, for one month before sailing back to the ocean. This docking is a routine maintenance carried out every 5 years, which includes hull maintenance, machine overhaul, and ballast water treatment system upgrade. Good ship maintenance will increase energy efficiency and the sustainability of ship operations. The maintenance process of the 100,000 deadweight tonnage (DWT) crude oil carrier is also part of the preparation to meet the requirements to cross the Panama Canal.

Acting Corporate Secretary of PIS Vega Pita said that the Gamsunoro ship is one of 102 ships owned by PIS that are the mainstay in distributing energy.

“Once the docking is complete, the ship will undergo a sea trial before continuing to sail to the waters of the United States. We always believe that ship maintenance is a strategic step in maintaining market confidence in PIS services and operations."

As an aframax category ship, the Gamsunoro ship has been operating in various international waters such as Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa since 2021, and will soon expand its reach to America. This ship has also been equipped with various international standard equipment including the Panama Chock and Suez Canal Certificate, which ensure smooth operations in international canals such as the Panama Canal and the Suez Canal.

The docking of the MT Gamsunoro ship is also a momentum for adjusting the ship's features to cross certain areas. The feature adjustments on Pertamina's third largest crude oil carrier were made to comply with the new regulations that apply to crossing the Panama Canal.

PIS itself currently serves more than 60 international routes and more than 30 international clients, with two representative offices in Asia Pacific (Singapore) and the Middle East (Dubai) to meet the needs of third-party partners. With this reach, PIS is trying to target a market capitalization of up to 8.9 billion US dollars by 2034.

The increasingly modern business and operational transformation has succeeded in making PIS the largest maritime logistics player in Southeast Asia and one of the most respected in the world. One of these indicators is the continued increase in PIS's non-captive market share, which in the first semester of 2024 had reached 19.2%, with 80% of it coming from international clients.

"We are aware that client trust in PIS services is so great that ship reliability is one of our top priorities. The maintenance of the Gamsunoro Ship will ultimately support PIS's efforts to increase the non-captive market share which is now continuing to grow," concluded Vega.

For the record, the Gamsunoro Ship at the beginning of this year successfully crossed the Red Sea and continued its voyage in the Suez Canal amidst the intensity of warming waters. At that time, the Gamsunoro Ship was carrying a cargo of crude oil and successfully sailed the ocean to the waters of the United States. This success marks the reliability of the PIS fleet and crew in navigating challenges in international waters.
