Speaking at a national coordination meeting in Bogor, West Java, on Thursday, the minister affirmed that stability and security are prerequisites to the actualization of the Asta Cita, or eight main missions, pursued by President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka.
To that end, Gunawan outlined several directives to regional leaders, with the first entailing boosting synergy among executive, legislative, and judiciary institutions.
Gunawan elaborated that by fostering a sound level of synergy, regions can effectively implement policies dictated by the central government.
Second, the coordinating minister highlighted the need for regional heads to maintain communication within regional leadership coordination forums to run administrations effectively.
Drawing attention to the next directive, the retired police general affirmed that regional leaders should tread carefully while deciding on a rather sensitive policy that could trigger a conflict, such as the determination of regional minimum wages.
According to the minister, the issuance of such a policy requires the involvement of business actors, workers, and governments.
He then elaborated on his fourth directive of encouraging leaders in regions to ensure fair and equitable public services.
"Fifth, it is important to provide only valid data so that every policy taken is accurate and impactful," he stated.
The minister underscored that consistency in implementing the five directives is essential to create a conducive situation in a region.
He also reminded all regional heads to involve their people in the implementation of government programs.
"They (residents) can be valuable partners to regional governments in maintaining local stability," he concluded.
