Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto's visit to China is an opportunity to bolster South-South cooperation to push green economy development, climate action, and energy transition, according to the Institute for Essential Services Reform (IESR).

In a statement issued on Saturday, IESR Executive Director Fabby Tumiwa said that the visit must be used to strengthen collaboration with China to support the low-carbon energy transition, green investment, technology transfer, and the development of the clean energy technology industry in Indonesia.

"Indonesia can build cooperation that enables the transfer of technology that supports innovation and efficiency in the renewable energy sector as well as investment in clean energy projects in Indonesia," he said.

Given its technological mastery and renewable energy capacity, China is deemed capable of becoming Indonesia's strategic cooperation partner in three sectors: renewable energy infrastructure and energy storage investments, clean energy technology manufacturing and supply chains, and industrial decarbonization.

IESR emphasized that the energy transition is necessary to achieve national energy self-sufficiency while reducing emissions from the energy sector and scripting sustainable economic growth.

The combination of the development of renewable energy, investment in renewable energy projects, and reduction of emissions in the energy sector could support the Prabowo administration's target of 8 percent economic growth.

Furthermore, Indonesia could seek soft loan support from China for the implementation of the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) and the National Electricity General Plan (RUKN).

"China's support for the JETP will open opportunities for China to enhance economic ties with developing countries that have an energy transition agenda," Tumiwa said.

Meanwhile, Indonesia, as a developing country, could accelerate renewable energy projects with adequate funding from China, he added.

Tumiwa expressed hope that President Prabowo will use the meetings with leaders and investors in China to get support for the just energy transition.

Prabowo embarked on his overseas agenda on Friday, during which he will visit several countries, including China, the United States, Peru, Brazil, and the United Kingdom.
