"Sexual violence prevention and handling services in the workplace and educational environment must be supported by strengthening the capacity of the task force," Komnas Perempuan commissioner Tiasri Wiandani said at a webinar on Monday.
She also underscored the importance of infrastructure and budget support for the task force so that it can operate optimally.
"They are necessary so that their works are not only limited to carrying out the mandate of the regulation but also ensure that efforts for sexual violence prevention and handling in the workplace and the educational environment are carried out well," she said.
Wiandani added that in cases involving sexual violence in the workplace or in the educational environment, the perpetrators often use power relations to target victims.
For preventing and handling sexual violence in the educational environment, the government has issued the Regulation of the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Number 46 of 2023.
The regulation mandates the formation of a task force to prevent sexual violence and handle cases of sexual violence reported by victims.
As for the world of work, the government has issued Manpower Minister's Decree Number 88 of 2023 on Guidelines for the Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence in the Workplace, which mandates the task force to address sexual violence cases in the workplace.
"This special team is formed to ensure efforts for prevention and handling are running well so that the cases are not left ignored," she said.
