Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government is accelerating efforts to restore villages devastated by flooding and landslides across Sumatra, the Ministry of Villages and Development of Disadvantaged Regions said Thursday.

Minister Yandri Susanto told reporters that the move follows President Prabowo Subianto’s directive to mobilize all available resources for post-disaster recovery.

“We will prepare plans to rebuild villages that were lost or heavily to moderately damaged as quickly as possible,” he said.

He said the recovery program will include repairs to village offices, homes and integrated health posts, or posyandu, which provide basic services to rural communities.

Susanto said the ministry continues to monitor and verify data on the number of villages destroyed or affected by the disasters and will conduct field visits to the worst-hit areas.

He also offered condolences to the victims of the floods and landslides that struck North Sumatra, West Sumatra and Aceh in recent days.

The ministry is also accepting public donations to help affected residents, he added.

Flooding and landslides swept through the three provinces after days of heavy rain. Local governments have declared emergency response periods running from Nov. 28 to Dec. 11 in Aceh, Nov. 27 to Dec. 10 in North Sumatra and Nov. 25 to Dec. 8 in West Sumatra.

The central government has drafted rehabilitation and reconstruction plans aimed at restoring community life within 100 days.

During a visit to Agam District in West Sumatra on Thursday, Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka said the government is expediting the delivery of relief supplies and the repair of essential infrastructure, including damaged bridges.
