The president articulated this stance at a meeting with businesspeople of the United States Indonesia Society (USINDO) in Washington, D.C., on Monday (November 11), according to Investment Minister Rosan Roeslani.
"The president's strongest message was clear: there is zero tolerance for corruption, which he described as a cancer," Roeslani said in a press statement posted on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube channel on Tuesday.
During the meeting, the president invited business leaders to engage directly with him about corruption-related issues that hinder development in Indonesia.
"Mr. Prabowo made it clear that he is very open to direct communication, and stated that if anyone is involved in corruption or creating problems, they can contact him directly," Roeslani added.
He also highlighted President Prabowo's commitment to taking decisive action against corruption, ensuring that Indonesia’s business climate remains transparent and conducive to investment, particularly for US companies.
USINDO, a non-governmental organization, was established to foster stronger ties between Indonesia and the United States through mutual understanding and closer people-to-people connections. It works to strengthen the partnership between both nations and their people.
In a casual business setting, approximately 12 US investors participated in the meeting, with most representing firms that have invested in Indonesia, according to the minister.
Several leaders of large US companies attended the meeting, such as Freeport-McMoRan, S&P Global, Boeing, BP America, Exxonmobil, Citi, and Caterpillar.
Roeslani also mentioned that USINDO views Indonesia as a country with vast investment potential across various sectors. Prabowo, who arrived in Washington, D.C., on Sunday (November 10), is on a working visit during which U.S. President Joe Biden will host the Indonesian president for a bilateral meeting at the White House on Tuesday.
During his visit, President Biden will mark the 75th anniversary of U.S.-Indonesian relations and discuss ways to strengthen cooperation under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, according to White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.
"The leaders will coordinate on sustainable approaches to food security and the clean energy transition..." she said in a statement on Sunday.
