Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto highlighted that leaders of companies based in the United States have expressed confidence in the bright prospect of Indonesia's economic growth.

Subianto made the statement after participating in a meeting with representatives of the United States-Indonesia Society (USINDO) in Washington D.C. on the second day of his visit to the US on Monday afternoon local time.

"They (US companies) have placed their trust in Indonesia and its economy. I have also encouraged them to continue to invest and take part in our national development plans," he noted in a statement from his secretariat here on Tuesday.

Prabowo also admitted to being content with the meeting held at 4 p.m. local time with 25 USINDO representatives from the US and Indonesia.

"I am very delighted with my meeting with US and global mega corporations earlier. The US has been highly involved in Indonesia's economy and development. Its companies have been present in Indonesia for a long time," he said.

The USINDO stands as a non-governmental organization established to enhance mutual understanding between the US and Indonesia and strengthen ties between the people of the two countries.

The meeting participants include Chairman of the Board of Freeport McMoRan Richard Adkerson, S&P Global Vice Chairman Daniel Yergin, GE Healthcare CEO Peter Arduini, VP and Head of International Affairs for BP America Robert Scher, and Executive VP of Government Operations at Boeing Ziad Ojakli.

USINDO President David Merril and USINDO Treasurer Edward Wanandi, among other leaders of corporations, also joined the meeting.

Meanwhile, Indonesian Investment and Downstreaming Minister Rosan Roeslani; Foreign Affairs Minister Sugono; Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Stella Christie; Chargé d'Affaires of the Indonesian Embassy in Washington D.C.
