Jakarta (ANTARA) - Creative Economy Minister Teuku Riefky Harsya has invited all stakeholders to make joint efforts to support the creative economy as a new engine of national economic growth.

"For the first time, the creative economy has become a ministry in Indonesian history. Here, we can see the purpose of the government led by President Prabowo (Subianto) to make the creative economy a new engine of growth," he said in a statement released on Wednesday.

Indonesia is known for its great potential in tourism and creative economy.

As of the first half of 2024, Indonesia's creative economy sector recorded added value of Rp749 trillion (US$1 = Rp15,798), or 55 percent of the target of Rp1,347 trillion.

The export value of creative economy products reached US$12 billion, or 45 percent of the target of US$27.5 billion.

The largest contribution came from four sub-sectors — fashion (US$6.7 billion), crafts (US$4.7 billion), culinary (US$830 million), and publishing (US$6 million).

Furthermore, Harsya said that the creative economy is targeted to become a new driving force for the national economy, which is projected to grow by 8 percent until 2029.

This also needs to be supported by the creation of space and opportunities for creative economic investment in the regions.

Meanwhile, the absorption of labor in the sector has continued to increase, with the figure reaching 24.9 million in 2023.

"We must realize that there is a new trend in the world that is starting to enter our regions. If, in the past, gold and coal mining were the mainstay, now the potential for tourism and creative economy mining must be utilized," the minister added.
