Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia has the potential to advance its music industry at the international level, emulating the success of South Korea with its globally popular K-pop, according to Culture Minister Fadli Zon.

Speaking to music industry actors at a dialogue held at his office, Zon remarked that Indonesia should be able to follow in the footsteps of South Korea, making Indonesian language songs enjoyable not only to Asians but also to those living in Europe and America.

"I believe that Indonesia, with its 280 million population and diverse languages, wields the same potential (to excel in the world of music)," he stated in Jakarta on Thursday.

During a meeting with his counterparts from G20 states, including Brazil, India, Germany, and South Korea, the minister also spoke of gaining insights into the key to a successful music industry.

"I asked about how K-pop could achieve remarkable success. Among the things I learned is that the government does not make too much intervention (in the music industry). The key is the creation of a supportive climate," he revealed.

The minister attributed K-pop's success to the discipline and programs implemented by the industry's actors.

He stressed that Indonesia must pave the way for an ecosystem that supports the development of its music industry.

Furthermore, Zon emphasized that the newly established Ministry of Culture is present to serve Indonesian people in cultural affairs and is willing to receive inputs and suggestions from all parties, including musicians, music associations, and concert organizers.

Hence, to this end, the ministry took the initiative to hold the dialogue with actors in the music industry, providing them with an opportunity to voice the problems they face to the government.
