Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka has stressed the central government's commitment to preparing human resources in the field of technology.

In a written speech read by Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid at the Indonesia AI Day event held here on Thursday, Gibran emphasized the importance of preparing human resources to develop, manage, and utilize technology.

"The Indonesian Government remains committed to improving the readiness of human resources, as well as creating an ecosystem that enables the younger generation to innovate, modify, and create technological development," he said in the statement.

He added that to support technological development in terms of economy, society, culture, and language, the government is keen to support human resources, including AI-based ones.

VP Gibran also noted the use of AI for preserving the nation's cultural wealth.

"We want to make technology not only a tool to achieve growth, but also a means to secure and preserve Indonesia's identity and rich cultural values as a nation that upholds Bhineka Tunggal Ika (Unity in Diversity)," he said.

The Indonesia AI Day 2024 event, organized by telecommunications company Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison (IOH), featured technology industry players who are focusing on AI.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang was among the tech and AI industry players who attended the event.

Gibran was scheduled to attend the event, but was unable to come because he had to focus on monitoring the handling of the Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki eruption impact in East Nusa Tenggara.

The government has welcomed investment interest from global IT companies for developing the AI ecosystem in Indonesia.

The potential for AI technology development is deemed huge and strategic to support digital progress in Indonesia.
