The two leaders touched upon the connection between AI and sustainable growth during a bilateral meeting at the White House, Washington D.C., on Tuesday (November 12) local time, according to a joint statement issued by the White House on whitehouse.gov.
"Both Indonesia and the United States concurred that AI and other digital technologies should be optimized to enable sustainable development and bridge the digital divide," the statement said, as cited in Jakarta on Wednesday.
President Prabowo and President Biden underlined the urgent need to intensify capacity-building measures to ensure equitable access to safe and resilient AI and other related digital innovations.
Both presidents also expressed enthusiasm over seizing the opportunity to expand radio access network (Open RAN) projects in Indonesia, believing that such projects could help the country improve its cellular network performance.
The expansion of the projects is expected to assist Indonesia in "creating a secure, resilient, and fostering a competitive ecosystem for advanced technology and providing broader connectivity."
The two heads of state also emphasized the importance of a shared aspiration to promote a peaceful, secure, and resilient cyberspace as the root of their collaborative efforts to improve their nations' digital capacity.
The leaders also celebrated the partnership established between the Indonesian government and the US Department of State through the International Technology Security and Innovation (ITSI) Fund under the CHIPS Act of 2022.
President Prabowo and his US counterpart also expressed their intention to collaborate to make the most of the ITSI Fund to augment the quality of Indonesian talents in the semiconductor industry and involve US universities in the development of human resources in general.
