Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia regretted the continued failure of the UN Security Council (UNSC) to adopt a draft resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of all hostages.

"The failure has hindered the peace process and exacerbated the suffering of the Palestinian people," according to the Foreign Ministry's written statement on their social media account as published on Thursday (November 21).

Indonesia also urged the international community to take all necessary steps to achieve a permanent ceasefire and ensure unhindered humanitarian access and distribution to all Palestinian people.

The United States, on Wednesday (November 20), again vetoed a UN Security Council resolution draft aiming to demand an immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

It intends to demand the unconditional release of all hostages and for the UN to fulfil its responsibility in maintaining global peace and security.

The resolution highlighted the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza. It also demanded immediate reopening of access to basic needs and aid desperately needed for the people in Gaza to sustain their lives.

The US veto, on Wednesday, was their fourth veto against resolution drafts aiming to end Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip, which the global community widely believes has escalated to genocidal acts.

The US vetoed such resolutions in October 2023, December 2023, and February 2024, while abstaining on other related resolutions.
