Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Library (Perpusnas) collaborates with the Berlin State Library in Germany to realize the single data of Nusantara manuscripts spread worldwide.

"Currently, the Perpusnas is focusing on three priority programs. Firstly is increasing the habit of reading and literacy, the second is mainstreaming Nusantara manuscripts, and the third is the standardization of libraries," Perpusnas Acting Head E. Aminudin Aziz noted in the library's official statement here on Friday.

Aziz signed a cooperation document with Director General of the Berlin State Library Achim Bonte in Berlin on Wednesday (November 20).

Aziz elaborated that cooperation with the Berlin State Library is a follow-up action to one of Perpusnas' priority programs of mainstreaming Nusantara manuscripts.

The cooperation is also in line with article 42 of Law No.43 of 2007 on Libraries, which states that Perpusnas, as the library network center in the country, can establish partnerships with domestic and foreign parties.

He highlighted that Perpusnas has several Nusantara manuscripts spread throughout the world. The collaboration is expected to help connect partners keen on expanding their knowledge of the country's past by conducting research on the manuscripts.

Director General of the Berlin State Library Achim Bonte affirmed that this cooperation can be followed up through several activities, such as conducting research and the exchange of experts and information, as well as holding an exhibition.

He noted that the Berlin State Library stores around 750 Nusantara manuscripts, including the Cerita Panji listed in UNESCO's Memory of the World (MoW).

Bonte is upbeat that the cooperation would ease researchers' access to the Nusantara manuscripts.
