Speaking in Jakarta on Wednesday, AHY said he is convinced that all pairs of candidates share the same goal of bringing progress to their respective electoral regions.
The minister also underscored that Wednesday's local elections were the most massive of their kind in Indonesian history.
"Let us hope that the results of today's special regional elections will not only bring about new expectations but also lead to the actualization of all the hopes the people pinned on their preferred candidates," he said.
AHY cast his ballot in the Jakarta gubernatorial election at Polling Station 28 in North Cipete, South Jakarta, on Wednesday morning.
Meanwhile, Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs, Budi Gunawan, observed that the simultaneous Regional Head Elections went smoothly in 37 provinces, 93 cities, and 415 districts across Indonesia.
"Based on our monitoring, most of today's simultaneous local elections ran in a safe and peaceful manner," he added at the Headquarters of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) in Jakarta.
The minister, however, said that a number of regions will need to organize re-voting on account of natural disasters.
"Re-voting is required in several regions affected by natural disasters, such as volcanic eruptions, landslides, and floods," he expounded.
November 27, 2024, was set as a national holiday to enable people to cast their votes to elect mayors, district heads, and governors.
Local offices of the General Elections Commission (KPU) in each region will conduct vote tabulation until mid-December.
The elected governors and deputy governors will take the oath of office on February 7 next year, while the inauguration of elected mayors, vice mayors, and district heads is scheduled for February 10.
