Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs, Budi Gunawan, has described Indonesia's improved ranking in the Global Terrorism Index (GTI) as a major achievement that deserves to be lauded.

"This achievement is the result of extraordinary and excellent collaborative work from all stakeholders, both in terms of prevention and law enforcement," he said here on Tuesday.

In the index, which shows the high impact of terrorism, Indonesia's ranking in 2023 improved to 31 from 24 in 2022.

The ranking has placed Indonesia in the category of countries where terrorism has a low impact, he noted.

Gunawan urged all parties to be grateful as Indonesia has succeeded in ensuring zero terrorist attacks in 2023 until now.

However, he reminded that this achievement does not indicate that the threat of terrorism is over, so the government's task ahead is how to maintain the current condition.

Moreover, he said, referring to various data, cyberspace can be misused to accelerate the process of radicalization, and it can even become a space for brainwashing.

"That way, the presence of the state can provide a guarantee of a sense of security for the entire community through protection, both in real space and in cyberspace, which has the potential to be misused for terror purposes," he added.

He emphasized that the protection efforts have also been included in the Asta Cita vision of President Prabowo Subianto's administration.

Specifically, the goal of strengthening the ideology of Pancasila, democracy, and human rights has been included in the missions.

For this reason, Gunawan has asked all ministers and heads of institutions as well as the community to strengthen synergy and collaboration to prevent the misuse of cyberspace and the threat of terrorism.
