"Ideally, every two years or at least once every five years, one productive vocational teacher should participate in full training to improve their expertise," the ministry's Acting Director General of Vocational Education, Tatang Muttaqin, stated on Wednesday (December 4).
Muttaqin conveyed this while opening a coordination meeting for quality assurance of upskilling and reskilling training for vocational teachers based on the world of work in the business and tourism fields on Wednesday.
His side is currently designing a roadmap to accelerate the full training program's realization, including sector-wise division of training posts for vocational teachers in each region and bolstering cooperation with strategic partners.
He noted that vocational teachers in regions can thus receive training effectively and efficiently without the need to go to Jakarta, where operational costs are high.
This training program targets 65 thousand productive vocational teachers from a total of 350 thousand vocational high school teachers. Muttaqin explained that productive teachers possess specific vocational skills beyond their standard teaching capabilities in general subject areas.
"We should also increase the number of our productive teachers. For now, we must be able to utilize the expertise and competence of teachers along with facilities and infrastructure for training in each region," he emphasized.
According to Muttaqin, the development of skills is very fast, so the professionalism and speed of adaptation of teachers are the main keys to helping vocational school graduates improve their abilities and become entrepreneurs opening new fields of work.
"There are 14,400 vocational schools in Indonesia, with a great potential for development," he remarked.
On that occasion, Muttaqin lauded the upskilling and reskilling training held by the Center for the Development of Vocational Education Quality Assurance (BBPPMPV) for Business and Tourism.
He expressed hope that 1,500 vocational teachers in business and tourism across Indonesia participating in the activity would increase the competitiveness of their students.
"They should be able to equip students according to the local needs or potentials. This training is expected to develop the potential of their respective regions," he stressed.
