In his speech, Prabowo noted that GAVI provided huge support to Indonesia, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The alliance donated 110.3 million doses of free vaccines worth USD684.6 million, as well as logistical assistance in the form of cold chain equipment and financial support worth nearly USD1 billion.
The President also highlighted the important role of GAVI CEO Nishtar, who continues to be committed to providing assistance to Indonesia.
Furthermore, he noted that GAVI's humanitarian efforts toward the provision of vaccines and immunization have saved the lives of more than one billion children in the world, including Indonesia.
At the meeting, which took place at the Presidential Palace, Prabowo and Barroso discussed the importance of being vigilant against the threat of future pandemics.
He emphasized that a pandemic like COVID-19 teaches the importance of being prepared for global health crises, including monitoring the threat of other outbreaks, such as mpox.
"I see that this (GAVI's) visit is very important. We had a deep discussion. He also reminded us that we should not be complacent because a pandemic can happen at any time," he said.
In his speech, the President also conveyed his appreciation for GAVI's dedication to carrying out global humanitarian missions.
"On behalf of the Indonesian people, I would like to thank GAVI; thank your leadership, and your CEO for your commitment to continue this great humanitarian task," he said.
