Jakarta (ANTARA) - Investment and Downstreaming Minister Rosan Perkasa Roeslani highlighted the transformative potential of concluding the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU CEPA), as it would open up numerous avenues for collaborative opportunities between both sides.

“I strongly believe that if we can complete the IEU CEPA, it will unlock all the potential to work together with European companies,” Roeslani stated at the Indonesia-Europe Investment Summit 2024 here on Monday.

Considering that the negotiation for the agreement had been held for over eight years, he expressed hope that the parties involved, including the Investment and Downstreaming Ministry he leads, would be able to finalize it soon.

“In our ministry (the Investment and Downstreaming Ministry), we are pushing very hard to finalize this along with other ministries,” he emphasized.

Roeslani noted that investment from European business players had long been a cornerstone of Indonesia's economic development.

He remarked that European investors had the expertise, technology, and resources which could optimize the development of potentials and dynamic market which Indonesia offered.

He highlighted Indonesia's immense renewable energy potential, spanning solar, hydropower, tidal, wind, and geothermal sources, which collectively approach an impressive capacity of nearly 3,700 Gigawatts (GW).

However, Roeslani noted that the Indonesian government could not develop the potential alone, as it required vast investments, advanced technology, and a good talent pool.

“That is why working with our counterparts, especially from European countries, is very important for us. Together, we can bridge this horizon and create a partnership that exemplifies sustainability, innovation, and inclusivity,” he remarked.

Chairman of the European Business Chambers of Commerce (EuroCham) Indonesia Francois de Maricourt said his side also expects the IEU CEPA negotiation to be completed in the near future.

He stated that the economic partnership agreement could significantly increase trade and investment flows between the EU and Indonesia.

Maricourt said his side was also committed to supporting the efforts of the Indonesian government in implementing policy reforms to enhance the business and investment climate and create a sustainable economy.

“At Eurocham, we remain committed to fostering strong partnerships between Europe and Indonesia, bridging horizons to drive green innovations, sustainable growth, and shared prosperity for a better future,” Francois de Maricourt added.
