Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) laid off five of its contract-based employees following the maladministration identified during an audit process within the Directorate General of Information Applications.

The ministry's Inspector General, Arief Tri Hardiyanto, underscored that the dismissal of the employees serves as a testament to Komdigi Minister Meutya Hafid's commitment to transparency and clean organizational governance.

"Madam minister's directive is clear. Every employee at the Komdigi Ministry must meet the prevailing administrative qualifications," he noted in the ministry's statement cited here on Monday.

Hardiyanto explained that the five contract staffs were working at the Directorate General of Information Applications without having registered their names in the ministry's Bureau of Personnel database.

The inspector general reiterated that such a practice contradicts the ministry's employment rules.

Furthermore, he stated that the layoff of the five employees is expected to drive officials at the ministry to exert even greater efforts to improve governance in various fields, including the supervision of digital content.

"In addition to solving problems, we are focused on prevention through continuous evaluation. This proves our commitment to supporting inclusive, safe, and beneficial digital transformation," he emphasized.

The Komdigi Ministry has been exerting all-out efforts to make improvements in its internal affairs following the involvement of some of its employees in online gambling activities.

Komdigi Deputy Minister Nezar Patria stated that his side aimed to evaluate the human resources and ministry systems comprehensively.

"We have taken internal measures in the wake of the recent (online gambling) case. We immediately carried out an audit, evaluating our technology systems and how we control negative (digital) content," he noted in a press release on November 5.
