Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian contingent won 56 medals at the SEA Age Group Swimming Championships, securing third place in the event's medal tally.

At the championships held in Bangkok, Thailand, on December 6-8, 2024, from a total of 56 medals, the Indonesian swimming team contributed 48 medals, comprising 23 gold medals, eight silver medals, and 17 bronze medals.

Furthermore, the artistic swimming team contributed two silver medals and three bronze medals, while the diving team bagged one silver and two bronze medals.

Indonesia claimed the third position in the medal standings, trailing behind Thailand, the host nation, which dominated with 43 gold, 50 silver, and 39 bronze medals, and Vietnam, which secured the second spot with 27 gold, 25 silver, and 16 bronze medals.

One of the Indonesian athletes with the best performance was 13-year-old Adelia Chantika Aulia, who clinched eight gold medals at the event. Earlier this year, she bagged four gold medals at the Aceh-North Sumatra National Sports Week.

Apart from Aulia, 17-year-old Jason Donovan Yusuf contributed three gold medals and one bronze medal.

Chairperson of the National Sports Committee of Indonesia (KONI) Marciano Norman, in a KONI statement on Tuesday, congratulated the athletes who presented achievements to Indonesia.

"I would like to express my gratitude for the hard work of the athletes, coaches, and the Indonesian Aquatic Sports Association," he remarked.

He expressed hope that the achievements would motivate other aquatic athletes to deliver more achievements in the future.

He was also upbeat that Indonesia would dominate aquatic sports, starting from Southeast Asia.

In the subsequent rankings after the top three nations, Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia, at the event, Malaysia secured the fourth position by earning seven gold medals, while Singapore claimed fifth place with four gold medals, and the Philippines settled into sixth place with a single gold medal.
