Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of Gianyar Police, Adjunct Commissioner Gananta, identified the two foreign nationals as Funny Justine Christine (32) from France and Kim Hyoeun (42) from South Korea.
One more person was injured in the incident, which occurred around 12:25 p.m. local time.
"Two people have died and one has been injured," Gananta confirmed.
The police are investigating the reason why the tree fell and are currently cleaning up the site with the help of the Gianyar Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD).
"We are currently cleaning up the scene and will investigate the cause later," he said.
The two victims were taken to the Kenak Medikal Ubud Hospital in an ambulance. Meanwhile, the injured tourist was treated at the clinic at Monkey Forest Ubud.
For the time being, the tourist attraction has been closed by the police for investigation.
Meanwhile, the head of public relations of the Bali Police, Senior Commissioner Jansen Avitus Panjaitan, urged residents and tourists to remain vigilant and careful on account of the weather conditions in Bali, which are dominated by rain and strong winds.
He said he hopes that people will reduce outside activities, particularly the unnecessary ones.
"It is better to avoid traveling during rain or find a safe place to take shelter. People should be vigilant and careful," he added.
Earlier, the Bali Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) put several areas in Bali province on alert for wet hydrometeorological disasters due to extreme weather during the rainy season, predicted from the third week of December 2024 to the fourth week of January 2025.
The areas include Badung and Tabanan districts, where the average rainfall intensity has reached 300 millimeters per decade.
