Jakarta (ANTARA) - Innovation is among the most important things that micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) must pursue to increase the scale of their business, according to Deputy Minister of MSMEs Helvi Moraza.

"Through innovation, MSMEs can respond to market changes, face competition that leads to resilience," he said during a discussion here on Thursday.

He added that MSMEs can no longer conventionally determine planning and then calculate business processes to anticipate market dynamics, instead, they need to start utilizing digital platforms.

In addition to innovation, MSMEs must also uphold loyalty, integrity, and discipline in doing their businesses.

"These four aspects are crucial so that MSMEs can survive in business. One of the missions of the Ministry of MSMEs is sustainability, as we also collaborate with many stakeholders, including the Ministry of Investment, to open markets abroad," he said.

Indonesia currently has more than 64 million MSMEs, which contribute 60.51 percent to the national gross domestic product (GDP) and absorb almost 97 percent of the total workforce.

SMESCO, a government institution responsible for training and supporting MSMEs, is keen to create a hub for MSMEs to enter the digital market.

"Through the hub, we will have a podcast studio so that MSMEs can do live shopping which is now a trend. They can also promote their products through digital platforms," SMESCO's director for business and marketing, Rizky Firdaus, said.

In addition to content creation, SMESCO also provides legal administration services for MSMEs, such as registration of intellectual property rights, National Food and Drug Authority (BPOM) certification, as well as halal certification.
