Jakarta (ANTARA) - Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR), Puan Maharani, has urged the government to issue programs and derivative regulations based on Law Number 4 of 2024 or the KIA Law without delay.

Law No. 4 of 2024 concerns mother and child welfare in the first 1,000 days of life.

"We encourage the government to accelerate the implementation and supervision of this policy so that the benefits are truly felt by the community," Maharani said in a statement received here on Friday.

She added that the provision of daycare facilities in the work environment, as the law mandates, is no exception.

She also urged the government to expand collaboration with the private sector in implementing women-friendly policies in the workplace.

According to her, women-friendly policies would not only improve the quality of life of women, but also strengthen their contribution to economic development.

"When parents are worried about their children, it would directly or indirectly have an impact on their work. This is human," she explained.

"On the other hand, when parents feel comfortable, they become more motivated to work. Of course, this will have a positive effect on the company where they work," she added.

She emphasized that the KIA Law was made in the spirit of ensuring that the rights of working women are fulfilled, such as access to supporting facilities in offices, maternity leave rights, and also paternity leave rights for men.

Maharani expressed the hope that the community will support the KIA Law's implementation as a joint commitment to ensure the rights and welfare of women and children.

"This is a joint step to build a more inclusive Indonesia with the hope that the nation's next generation will grow into superior human resources," she said.
