Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Directorate General of Immigration at the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections has emphasized that the Indonesian Government will not tolerate any form of violation of the nation's laws by foreign nationals.

This was conveyed by Director of Immigration Supervision and Enforcement at the ministry Yuldi Yusman at a press conference on the arrest of 12 Vietnamese women for suspected prostitution at the office of the Directorate General of Immigration in Jakarta on Friday.

The Indonesian immigration authorities are also hoping for the community's active participation in reporting suspicious activities by foreigners during their stay in the country.

This, according to him, will support law enforcement for every violation.

"We are committed to protecting Indonesia. The government is committed to protecting Indonesia from transnational crimes and maintaining public security and order," he affirmed.

Earlier on Thursday, the Directorate of Immigration Supervision and Enforcement arrested 12 Vietnamese women suspected to be working as sex workers in North Jakarta.

The arrests, Yusman said, were made based on reports received from the community. The directorate followed up on the reports by conducting an investigation for around one month.

The Vietnamese women secured a visa-free entry and entered Indonesia on a visit visa, but reportedly started working as sex workers.

The 12 Vietnamese nationals were found to have abused their stay permit and Article 122 of Law Number 6 of 2011 concerning Immigration. Therefore, they will be deported and banned from entering Indonesia for two years.

In addition, the director of immigration supervision and enforcement is currently investigating the case further, including to expose the coordinators who directed those foreign nationals to work in Indonesia.
