Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Police’s Traffic Corps (Korlantas) is planning to limit the operational hours of freight trucks with the aim of minimizing accidents and congestion during the Christmas 2024 and New Year 2025 holidays.

Speaking at the Hotel Indonesia Roundabout, Central Jakarta, on Sunday, Korlantas Chief Inspector General Aan Suhanan noted that during Operation Candle 2024 from December 22 to January 2, special rules will be imposed on such vehicles on toll roads and arterial roads.

“Vehicles hauling goods will only be allowed to operate on arterial roads from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.,” he pointed out.

He further highlighted that his corps would ensure that freight trucks steer clear of toll roads during the period.

The Korlantas has also carried out a tactical floor game (TFG) to prepare for the implementation of this year’s Operation Candle, he added.

Representatives of the traffic police directorates of the Greater Jakarta Police, West Java Police, Central Java Police, Yogyakarta Police, East Java Police, and Bali Police participated in the TFG.

Suhanan explained that during the activity, the participating police outlined their strategies for anticipating people’s mobility during the year-end holidays.

Moreover, the police invited other relevant stakeholders to the TFG to receive more inputs on how to effectively manage the traffic and ensure people's comfort during the year-end holidays.

"Hopefully, the tactical floor game we organized recently would lead to the proper management of the flow of people's holiday trips," he stated.

The police officer further remarked that his side had also conducted a survey and a coordination meeting to decide tactical measures that will be taken during Operation Candle 2024.

He then appealed to people to refrain from resorting to two-wheeled vehicles for their holiday trips, given the high number of accidents involving such vehicles.
