Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid emphasized the role of digital technology in building an inclusive and sustainable future for Indonesia.

"Digital technology can help reduce the potential for conflict and inequality, while opening up equal opportunities for all, including for marginalized communities," Hafid said in the Knitting Indonesia's Future Dialogue in Denpasar, Bali.

As quoted through the ministry's press statement here on Sunday, she said that the government implements digital transformation in order to empower the community, especially marginalized communities.

According to her, the use of digital technology must be based on the values of ethics, tolerance, and collaboration to answer various global challenges, such as the digital divide, climate change, the struggle for achieving equality, and solving cross-border conflicts.

In addition, she explained that technology not only can be used as a means of communication, but also as a tool to unite the world.

Hafid highlighted the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology which has proven to be effective in supporting global peace.

She highlighted UNESCO which used technology to analyze conflict patterns in various regions and carry out data-driven decision-making.

In line with the principle of Tri Hita Karana, she reminded that technology must serve humans, and this is in accordance with President Prabowo Subianto's statement at the APEC Summit last November, which touched on breakthroughs in technology that require leaders to be wiser, more patient, and more accommodating.

"The power of technology can bring great progress to human life, but it can quickly bring destruction to human life. Let's use technology for good, unite society and boost progress," she said.
