The service is currently in the trial phase, expected to expand transportation options for the public and reduce private vehicle usage.
"I invite the public, especially private vehicle users traveling to or from Yogyakarta, to utilize the train service as an alternative mode of transportation," Purwagandhi said.
He added that with this direct train, travel will also become faster and more comfortable.
The minister rode the six-hour direct train from Gambir Station with Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono and Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning Nusron Wahid.
Purwagandhi said that he was satisfied with the service provided and enjoyed the trip. He added that he could rest comfortably on the train.
The minister said that his office, state-owned railway company KAI, and related stakeholders will conduct an evaluation soon to determine the sustainability of the direct train connection between Jakarta and Yogyakarta.
If the trial runs smoothly and is well-received, the service is expected to be operational starting from the year-end holidays.
"We will review the public interest in this direct train service. We will assess the outcomes after this train returns to Jakarta. I hope the public shows great enthusiasm," he said.
Minister Yudhoyono praised the Ministry of Transportation and KAI for their innovative direct train service from Jakarta to Yogyakarta.
"Hopefully, with cooperation, synergy, and collaboration of all parties, we can continue to advance railways in Indonesia," he said.
