"Direct trains are an alternative mode for Jakarta-Semarang and vice versa, which provides a new experience for the public," Purwagandhi noted in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday.
The minister highlighted that various efforts continue to be made to maintain the comfort, efficiency, and connectivity of transportation for Christmas 2024 and New Year 2025.
One of the efforts made is through the innovation of transit-free trains connecting Gambir Station, Jakarta, with Semarang Tawang Station.
Purwagandhi admitted to personally verifying the new train service by taking a trial ride from Gambir Station to Semarang Tawang Station on Monday, Dec 9, 2024, at 23:20 local time.
According to the minister, their primary goal is to enable train travelers to appreciate the ease and comfort of seamless, non-stop train services.
"Train users can catch the night train and then arrive at their destination in the morning. Hence, they can unwind on the train without interrupting their rest time," the transportation minister remarked.
He noted that currently, the direct train service is only available exclusively and in the form of a trial on December 9 and 10, 2024.

The selection of the Jakarta-Semarang route and vice versa is in accordance with the regulations on limiting the working hours of train drivers. In future, evaluations of the implementation of services and public interest will continue to be conducted.
"We hope this will be the final trial, and when the Christmas and New Year post starts around December 18, 2024, PT KAI will operate this direct train during Christmas and New Year activities," the transportation minister explained.
In line with Purwagandhi, Minister of State-Owned Enterprises Erick Tohir assessed that the direct train is a breakthrough in improving services to the public.
He praised the new train service, citing its instant popularity as evidenced by all 350 seats immediately occupied during the train's inaugural journey.
The departure time of 11 p.m. local time is the public's popular choice, especially as it provides flexibility for those looking to travel long distances at a convenient time.
"Moreover, the stations continue to be improved. There are showers and lockers, more food facilities, and there are pharmacies, and others. It is extraordinary. Hence, hopefully, we can provide the best for the public," he remarked.
Before boarding the direct train, the transportation minister and state-owned enterprises minister conducted an inspection and greeted passengers at Gambir Station.
