According to Zon, the collaboration between the Ministry of Culture and the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) is a strategic step to explore cultural potential, especially through archaeological research and the exploration of cultural sites in the country.
"We need to redefine the nation's identity through cultural research. Indonesia is one of the oldest civilizations in the world, but this value has not been utilized enough as the foundation of our identity," Zon stated here on Wednesday.
The minister made the statement while delivering a speech at the "Memorial Lectures and Cultural Speech: Redefining Indonesia Identity" at BRIN's B.J. Habibie Building.
The minister elaborated that the collaboration between the Culture Ministry and BRIN focuses on conservation and innovation in utilizing research results to provide real benefits at the national and international levels.
He noted that the BRIN, as the ministry's main partner, has a significant role in exploring findings that have not been fully tapped.
Archaeological manuscripts and language research are considered the key to rediscovering the narrative reflecting the nation's richness, history, and cultural diversity.
Through research and innovation, Zon believes that the national identity rooted in history and local wisdom can be used to face global challenges.
On the same occasion, the Head of BRIN, Laksana Tri Handoko, echoed his side's commitment to supporting the exploration of Indonesian culture.
"We are committed to carrying out excavation to explore heritage, be it from relics, manuscripts, or languages, which can show our culture which was not known before," he remarked.
