"Especially watch out (for areas) in the Indian Ocean. The Indian Ocean is west of Sumatra, south of the Sunda Strait, and south of Java to East Nusa Tenggara," BMKG head Dwikorita Karnawati said at the Gadjah Mada University (UGM) Campus here on Thursday.
According to her, the potential for bad weather is expected to continue until early 2025.
She assured that her agency will continue to provide weather information to the public through various official channels, ranging from websites to social media.
Early warnings related to bad weather will continue to be updated for related stakeholders, such as port operators, she said.
"Please continue to watch out because the (weather) development is very dynamic and fast," she added.
To strengthen mitigation efforts, the BMKG will coordinate with authorities such as the Ministry of Transportation, Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture, National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), regional disaster mitigation agencies (BPBD), and local governments.
"We have always coordinated with them and anticipated (bad weather) since November (2024)," she said.
On a separate occasion, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, Pratikno, emphasized that the readiness of transportation routes, including sea crossings, should be ensured ahead of the year-end holiday momentum.
"We have anticipated big waves by using larger ships. We also emphasize that the (transportation) routes during the Christmas and New Year period must be prepared more seriously," he said.
