Implying the current rainy season, Gibran emphasized that residents in the province should exercise a higher level of alertness to possible disasters.
"Today, we are educating pupils here on matters related to disasters," he remarked while reviewing a simulation of an earthquake at the Muhammadiyah Boarding School in Bogor District, West Java Province, on Wednesday.
The vice president expressed hope that the disaster simulation, conducted by the Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) of Bogor District, would lead the students to refrain from panicking in the event of a natural disaster, ultimately increasing their chances of survival.
On that occasion, Gibran observed a coordinated drill where numerous boarding school students promptly evacuated their classrooms and converged at a designated assembly point as part of the earthquake simulation exercise.
In the scenario, a team from the BPBD immediately engaged medics to provide treatments to those with broken bones as a result of the tremors.
During the simulation, the BPBD demonstrated the swift installation of an emergency tent within eight minutes to the students.
Acting Head of the Bogor District BPBD Ade Hasrat underscored that the district is vulnerable to natural disasters, noting that about 1,800 disasters have struck the region this year.
"We are on a hydrometeorological alert following the warning of high-intensity rains issued by the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG). The peak of the rainy season is predicted to occur this month," he stated.
Acting West Java Governor Bey Machmudin and Acting Head of Bogor District Bachril Bakri accompanied Vice President Gibran during his visit.
