"All hiking trails to the Mount Rinjani area are closed from January to April 2025," Yarman, Head of the TNGR Office, stated in Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara, on Saturday.
He explained that the onset of the rainy season often increases the risk of hydrometeorological disasters such as heavy rain, strong winds, and the threat of flooding and landslides, particularly during the peak of the 2025 rainy season.
Hence, the TNGR routinely closes the park yearly to demonstrate respect for nature. This allows Mount Rinjani time to recover and protects hikers from unforeseen dangers.
"On every journey toward beauty, there are times when we must give nature space to breathe. This closure is for the sake of ecosystem recovery and the safety of all," he stated.
The closed hiking trails include those originating from Senaru and Torean in North Lombok District, Sembalun and Timbanuh in East Lombok District, Tetebatu in East Lombok District, and Aik Berik in Central Lombok District.
"The last climbing season will conclude at the end of December 2024," he confirmed.
Yurman emphasized that non-climbing natural tourist destinations within the Mount Rinjani National Park remain open to visitors.
