BNPT head Eddy Hartono said that those items of content were associated with different terrorist organizations, such as Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD), Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia (HTI), and Jamaah Ansharut Tauhid (JAT).
"They are dominated by the propaganda of terror networks affiliated with ISIS, HTI, JAT, and JAD," he informed at a year-end press conference in Jakarta on Monday.
Of the items that were removed, 86,203 were posted on Instagram, followed by 45,449 on Facebook and 23,595 on TikTok.
Furthermore, 9,535 items of content were taken down from X, 8,506 from WhatsApp, 4,751 from Telegram, and 3 items from online media platforms.
Hartono noted that Telegram is widely used by extremist and terrorist groups to spread propaganda.
According to him, monitoring content on the platform is important because Law Number 5 of 2018 concerning the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Terrorism states that those planning evil acts can be punished.
In addition, the BNPT has mapped regions that are vulnerable to radicalism and terrorism. However, the agency did not reveal information about them for reasons of confidentiality.
"Because this is confidential, we cannot announce it yet. This is for ourselves to take preventive measures. We have the data on regions that are considered prone," he said.
