Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) of Jakarta has asked residents in coastal areas to remain alert for coastal flooding until January 3, 2025.

Executive head of the Jakarta BPBD, Isnawa Adji, said in Jakarta on Thursday that coastal flooding could potentially occur in coastal areas of North Jakarta, such as Kamal Muara, Kapuk Muara, Penjaringan, Pluit, Ancol, Kamal, Marunda, Cilincing, Kalibaru, and Muara Angke.

According to Adji, the Tanjung Priok Meteorology Station of the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has issued an early warning against coastal flooding, which will remain in effect from December 26, 2024, to January 3, 2025.

"For today (Thursday), the inundation that occurred only covered 0.003 percent of the total 30,772 neighborhoods in Jakarta," he informed.

According to information from officers in the field, no residents were displaced due to the coastal flooding.

"We have also coordinated with local stakeholders, such as the water resources offices, to jointly overcome this tidal problem," he said.

Adji appealed to the community to immediately contact the Jakarta Siaga call center by dialing 112 if they face or experience any emergency and require help.

"In anticipating ongoing negative impacts, we will deploy personnel to monitor the flooding condition in each region. This is a form of our commitment to maintaining the comfort and safety of Jakarta residents amidst the potential for extreme weather," he said.
