Prabowo made the statement while delivering the 2024 Year-End Release at the police headquarters here on Tuesday.
"Our commitment to prioritizing restorative justice is evident in the increase of 2,888 cases resolved through this mechanism, from 18,175 in 2023 to 21,063 in 2024," Prabowo pointed out.
The police chief underlined that the positive trend in restorative justice reflects his office's genuine determination to serve justice for all citizens.
"The Polri accord priority to restorative justice with the aim of ensuring that our law enforcement measures are just to all parties while pursuing the restoration of the original state," he remarked.
He also highlighted that resolving a case through restorative justice offers myriad advantages, allowing the authorities to enforce laws with minimum costs, considering that such a mechanism eliminates the need for investigations, prosecutions, trials, and correctional services.
The general, however, underscored that his side would not opt for restorative justice to deal with cases linked to disruptions to public security and order.
"It should be noted that we will resort to firm, lawful actions against certain crimes that are detrimental to public order, finances of the state, and ordinary citizens or people belonging to vulnerable groups," he stressed.
General Prabowo delivered the remarks in the presence of Polri Deputy Chief Commissioner General Ahmad Dofiri and other high-ranking police officers, members of Indonesia's National Police Commission (Kompolnas) and the General Elections Commission (KPU), and some other guests.
