"I will announce it later. Hopefully, they will come on January 7 (2025). Apple and I will announce the investment," he said after attending a limited meeting with President Prabowo Subianto at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta.
He added that Apple representatives would visit Indonesia and announce the realization of the investment plan on Tuesday.
According to him, Apple has sent an unofficial letter, both to him and to the Ministry of Industry.
On Tuesday, Apple will also meet with the Minister of Industry, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita.
"The letter is related to industry and the investment. I told them that those two can run together. On January 7, their representatives will come and meet Minister Kartasasmita as well," Roeslani said.
He, however, was reluctant to provide further details about the value of Apple's investment and the company's plan to build a factory in Indonesia.
Earlier, the minister said that Apple's investment in Indonesia will be in the form of mobile phone component production.
Apple plans to invest US$1 billion in Indonesia. This investment will enable Apple's latest offering, the iPhone 16, to be officially sold in the Indonesian market.
The iPhone 16, whose sale was launched on September 20, 2024, could not enter the Indonesian market because the smartphone did not meet the 40 percent domestic component level (TKDN) requirement.
According to the Ministry of Industry, only products with TKDN and company benefit weight above 40 percent can be sold in Indonesia.
The government had snubbed Apple's earlier US$100 million investment proposal as it was not considered proportional to its sales in Indonesia, which reached 2.5 million iPhone units in 2023.
