"Amid the surge in (homecoming exodus) return flow...KAI reminds passengers to pay attention to baggage provisions to maintain safety and smoothness of the trips," KAI Vice President Public Relations Anne Purba said in Jakarta on Sunday.
She explained that passengers are allowed to bring baggage without being charged with a maximum weight of 20 kg, volume of 100 dm3, and dimension of 70x48x30 cm.
Since December 19, 2024 to January 5, 2025, KAI has transported 3,501,774 passengers in Java and Sumatra.
Of the 3,672,144 tickets, 2,975,025 tickets for long-distance trains, or 107 percent of the seats, namely 2,770,864 seats.
The occupancy rate surpassed 100 percent because there were dynamic passengers, namely those who board or get off the train between departure and final station.
Furthermore, the number of tickets sold for local trains reached 697,119 tickets or 87 percent of the total seats provided, namely 801,724 tickets.
According to her, tickets for medium-distance and long-distance trains can be purchased from D-45 while for local trains the tickets can be purchased 30 days before the departure.
Apart from that, she explained, tickets for several trains can only be purchased seven days before the departure.
"So far, based on monitoring, the (homecoming exodus) return flow is busy. The occupancy of several favorite trains has even surpassed 100 percent," she said.
