InJourney Airports President Director Faik Fahmi stated that from December 18, 2024, to January 5, 2025, the number of airplane passengers at those 37 airports rose notably along with the optimization of flight time slots.
"InJourney Airports served 9.24 million passengers at 37 airports during the holidays period, or an increase of 11 percent compared to the same period last year of 8.31 million passengers," he noted in a statement from his office on Tuesday.
Fahmi attributed the increase in air passengers to two factors: the government's airfare reduction program and the growing demand for air travel after the pandemic.
Data from InJourney Airports' report for the Christmas and New Year indicated that the busiest airports during the 19 days of the holidays were Soekarno-Hatta in Tangerang, with 3.13 million passengers; I Gusti Ngurah Rai in Bali, 1.35 million passengers; Juanda in Surabaya, 768 thousand passengers; Sultan Hasanuddin in Makassar, 532 thousand passengers; and Kualanamu Deli in Serdang, 463 thousand passengers.
Meanwhile, the leading domestic flight destinations are Denpasar, Medan, Surabaya, Makassar, and Palembang, while the top international routes are Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Jeddah, Hong Kong, and Doha.
During the holiday period, Fahmi noted that InJourney Airports managed 66,680 take-off and landing flights, a four percent increase from the same timeframe last year.
"In this Christmas and New Year period, there were 2,170 additional flights," he explained.
Fahmi said his side served 1,297 flight routes connected to 37 airports, comprising 827 domestic routes and 470 international routes.
He remarked that the average passenger occupancy rate for flights departing from InJourney Airports was particularly high at 82 percent.
"Flight slot times at airports and aircraft load factors are quite high. Good collaboration within the aviation ecosystem, especially between InJourney Airports and airlines, ensures high flight traffic at our 37 airports," he remarked.
