Only seven airports that we manage made profit while six others suffered losses
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - PT Angkasa Pura I said six of 13 airports it operates suffered losses ranging from Rp3 billion to Rp49 billion in 2012.

"Only seven airports that we manage made profit while six others suffered losses," the company`s president director, Tommy Soetomo, said in a hearing with House of Representatives Commission XI here on Monday.

He said the six airports that suffered losses are the Selaparang airport losing Rp49.256 billion, the El Tari airport in Kupang losing Rp7.137 billion, the Frans Kaisepo airport in Papua (Rp23.805 billion), the Adisumarmo airport in Solo, Central Java, (Rp22.476 billion), the Pattimura airport in Ambon (Rp22.874 billion) and the Sam Ratulangi airport in Manado, North Sulawesi, (Rp3.852 billion).

The airports that made profit meanwhile are the Ngurah Rai airport in Bali (Rp796.97 billion), the Juanda airport in Surabaya, East Java (Rp313.927 billion), the Sepinggan airport (Rp104.049 billion), the Adisucipto airport in Yogyakarta (Rp64.472 billion), the Syamsuddin Noor airport (Rp30.494 billion), the Sultan Hasanuddin airport (Rp39 billion), the Ahmad Yani airport in Semarang, Central Java (Rp7.03 billion).

Tommy said the deficit suffered by the six airports was caused by limited capacity of the airports.

"Almost all of the airports cannot be expanded due to a limited availability of land while their capacity has been very limited," he said.

Ideally, an airport that has a passenger traffic of up to three millions a year must be expanded, he said.

Citing an example, he referred to the Adisucipto airport which now serves up to 4.9 million passengers a year so needs expansion but it cannot as yet be realized until now.

"The study for the development of a new airport in Kulon Progo has already finished but until now it cannot as yet be realized due to land acquisition problems," he said.

Tommy said land has so far been the main problem hindering extension programs as almost all airports are located side by side with lands belonging to the defense forces such as Adisucipto with that of the air force.

"Technically in terms of air space the area has no longer been adequate causing a potential loss of between 30 to 40 percent a year," he said.

In 2013 the company expects to earn Rp3.1 trillion up 16.10 percent from the realization in 2011 recorded at Rp2.67 trillion.
