"Culture is an integral component of the entire development process," he remarked during a working visit on Tuesday.
He further emphasized that promoting culture aligns with the mandate of Law Number 5 of 2017 on the Advancement of Culture. This law serves as the legal framework for effectively managing Indonesia's rich cultural heritage.
Article 32, paragraph 1 of the 1945 Constitution mandates the state to "advance Indonesia's national culture within the context of world civilization by ensuring the nation's freedom to preserve and develop its cultural values."
According to the Minister, Indonesia boasts the world's most diverse cultural landscape. This cultural richness strengthens the nation's foundation, fosters a strong national identity, and cultivates a robust national character.
"Character development must be rooted in culture. This is crucial, as neglecting cultural values risks losing our identity amidst the complexities of contemporary globalization," he asserted.
The government's primary responsibility is to cultivate a deep appreciation for local culture among all Indonesians.
In international relations, culture is recognized as "soft power" due to its inherent ability to influence others.
Culture serves as a highly effective tool for enhancing a nation's influence, shaping global perceptions, and fostering profound emotional connections with the international community.
Therefore, Indonesia, with its diverse cultural tapestry, must actively contribute to world civilization to win the hearts and minds of the global community.
Beyond introducing Indonesian culture to the world, there is an urgent need to cultivate an appreciation for local culture among the younger generation, the Minister concluded.
