Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, and Australian Ambassador to Indonesia, Penny Williams, explored viable initiatives to further enhance bilateral economic ties during a meeting at the former's office on Thursday.

"Indonesia and Australia have been enjoying a lasting and close partnership. The two countries celebrated their 75 years of diplomatic relations in 2024," Hartarto noted in a statement released by his office in Jakarta.

The coordinating minister highlighted that, as ambassador, Williams has driven the formulation and implementation of the Partnership Program for the Economy (Prospera) and the government-backed business development program Katalis.

Both programs have been designed to complement the Indonesia-Australia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IA-CEPA).

Hartarto observed that the implementation of the two economic programs represents the countries' shared commitment to maintaining harmonious relations while pursuing inclusive economic growth.

During the bilateral meeting, the minister and the ambassador also discussed ways to further intensify trade activities, with a special focus on ensuring balanced and mutually beneficial trade relations.

The two also highlighted their countries' solidarity at multilateral forums, as reflected in Australia's support for Indonesia's leadership of the G20 in 2022, ASEAN in 2023, and the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) in 2023.

At the end of the meeting, Hartarto extended his appreciation to Williams for her relentless work in bolstering bilateral relations.

The minister underlined that Australia has been Indonesia's strategic partner, especially in the economic and education sectors.

"We are hoping for a lasting and closer partnership between Indonesia and Australia," he pointed out.

Meanwhile, Ambassador Williams, who is nearing the end of her tenure, highlighted that 2025 would be a busy year for both the Indonesian and Australian governments.

As Indonesia adapts to its new administration elected in October 2024, Australia is set to hold a federal election in May this year.
