"The P2MI Ministry is a new ministry established by the president to address all matters related to migrant workers," Karding stated here on Friday.
He explained that based on the law, migrant workers are "individuals who work outside of the country and earn a salary," so once they return home, they are referred to as retired migrant workers.
"The ministry's role is to support migrant workers from the time they depart, during their employment, and after they return, including assisting their families," Karding remarked.
"We will implement various empowerment programs for retired migrant workers, such as helping them start their own businesses," he affirmed.
Minister Karding also said his side would engage in discussions with the manpower offices in the regions to identify suitable business opportunities for retired migrant workers.
"We will provide assistance in sectors like sales, management, and access to low-interest loans," he stated.
Karding said his side has partnered with the Ministry of Co-operatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to create a loan scheme of up to Rp100 million with an annual interest rate of six percent.
Furthermore, the minister emphasized the importance of providing sustainable programs for migrant workers.
"Village heads can record which residents are interested in starting businesses. It is also a must that the village heads are informed about individuals who will be working abroad. Everything must follow the proper procedure, and we will provide training for them," he remarked.
