Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government is considering prioritizing the inauguration of regional leaders whose election has not been challenged at the Constitutional Court (MK), Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections, Yusril Ihza Mahendra, has said.

He made the statement after a meeting on technical matters related to the inauguration with State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, on Friday.

The statement referred to the MK's decision suggesting that all leaders elected in the 2024 regional elections be inducted simultaneously on the same date.

"There are two verdicts issued by the MK that have raised some doubts. We are unsure whether the MK strictly mandates that the inaugurations be held simultaneously once all disputes have been resolved, or if it is possible to induct those not involved in any disputes first," he said.

Mahendra then revealed his plan to meet with Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian, the House of Representatives (DPR), and the MK to discuss technical matters in order to prevent issues during the anticipated inaugurations of regional leaders.

Earlier on January 2, 2025, Speaker of Commission II of the DPR, Rifqinizamy Karsayuda, confirmed that the inaugurations of regional heads elected in last year's local polls would be postponed until March 2025 from the initial schedule of February this year.

He explained that the new plan is to carry out the inaugurations simultaneously once the MK has issued its verdict on all election result disputes on March 13, 2025.

"Once the disputes have been resolved, the MK will issue a letter to all elected governors and mayors, announcing the final verdicts," the lawmaker said when contacted in Jakarta.
