"The Pilkada (votes) are being counted. Soon, we will have new leaders in the regions," Karnavian observed at a house key handover ceremony at Pasar Rumput Rental Apartment Complex here on Thursday.
He said he expects the new regional heads to make programs that are pro-people.
For example, it is hoped that the new leaders will make rental flats cheaper, he expounded. Earlier, rental costs at the Pasar Rumput apartment were around Rp3.5 million, but now, they are in the range of Rp1.1 million to Rp2.25 million.
Karnavian said that he will continue to evaluate regional heads. He added that he will inform the public about regional heads who fail to carry out their work optimally.
"The Ministry of Home Affairs will evaluate which regions are working with initiatives, which ones need to be pushed, and which ones that are not working at all. We will convey this to the public," he affirmed.
It is hoped that the policy of lowering the rental cost at Pasar Rumput apartment carried out by the Jakarta provincial government will inspire regional heads in other regions, he said.
"If the regional heads do like that, their electability can increase," he added.
He also reminded them to devise pro-people policies. "Jakarta can do it, so can other regions. If not, it means that the elected leaders need to be questioned," he said.
Meanwhile, Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) Maruarar Sirait said that his ministry is striving to realize the government's three million houses program.
"We will collaborate with PT KAI and (state-owned housing company) Perumnas to start building houses in many regions for people in Indonesia," he added.
