Manokwari, West Papua (ANTARA) - The West Papua provincial government has said that the public security and order situation during the 2024 simultaneous Regional Head Elections (Pilkada) in seven districts in the province was safe, smooth, and conducive.

Head of the West Papua Provincial Secretariat Octovianus Major said here on Thursday that the provincial government will continue to monitor the process of withdrawing logistics from polling stations (TPS) in the regions for the vote-counting process.

"Overall, the public security and order situation during the voting process went smoothly without any significant incidents," he informed.

According to him, the voting and vote-counting processes at each TPS in the regions have been supported by the optimized security pattern carried out by the Indonesian Military (TNI) and the National Police (Polri).

He said that the Pilkada processes have so far remained conducive due to the strategies made to mitigate potential violations and intensified efforts to expand public awareness on maintaining the quality of democracy.

The provincial government has appealed to all candidate pairs contesting the Pilkada to remain patient and wait for the declaration of official results of the vote recapitulation by the General Elections Commission (KPU).

"Valid election results will be announced by the provincial and district-level KPUs," he informed.

Meanwhile, public relations head of the West Papua Police's Mantap Praja Mansinam Operation Task Force, Senior Commissioner Robertus Pandiangan, said that the TNI and Polri officers are committed to ensuring security and stability in the region during the Pilkada stages.

"Until today, regional security is still stable. Of course, this is inseparable from the participation of all societal elements," he added.
